La caza de brujas es uno de los episodios más crueles de la historia de la humanidad. Entre los siglos XV y XVIII, en pleno Renacimiento, se produjo en Europa un consenso social por el que todas las mujeres eran potenciales brujas y se sentaron las bases jurídicas para legitimar miles de ajusticiamientos en la hoguera y la horca.
Con este proyecto, Judith Prat quiere rescatar la memoria de estas mujeres y contar su verdadera historia, para reconstruir un imaginario común que las respete y las repare como víctimas.
A través 67 imágenes, la exposición sigue el hilo de la Historia y construye un mapa visual evocador de los hechos y los lugares claves de la caza de brujas. La autora centra su trabajo en la zona de los Pirineos, identificando símbolos, tradiciones y estigmas con el objetivo de destruir viejos estereotipos y dignificar la memoria de las mujeres y utilizando la luz como elemento clave del relato.
Witches
Witch hunts were one of the cruelest episodes in the history of humanity. Between the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries, at the height of the Renaissance, a social consensus emerged in Europe that all women were potential witches, which laid the legal groundwork for legitimizing thousands of executions at the pyre and noose.
With this project, Judith Prat aims to revive the memory of these women and tell their true story in order to reconstruct a common imaginary that respects them and gives them fair reparations as victims.
Through sixty-seven images, the exhibition follows in the footsteps of history and builds a visual map that evokes the key deeds and places in these witch hunts. The artist’s work revolves around the Pyrenees region and identifies symbols, traditions and stigmas with the goal of destroying old stereotypes and dignifying the memory of the women, using light as a key element in the story.
